CESA 1140: Zero Energy Buildings: Mechanical Systems Details (Residential)

This course will assist builders, contractors, and designers to advance their understanding of the design, installation, and verification practices needed to realize performance of HVAC mechanical equipment and meet the requirements of the Upper Steps of the BC Energy Step Code including the Passive House standard. The focus of course is to develop understanding of applying best practices and the unintended consequences associated with poorly selected, designed, installed, and verified systems. Through case study work completed under the guidance of industry expert instructors, you will learn best practices in mechanical HVAC systems for Part 9 homes with ability to apply your learning on the job.
Topics covered included: proper system selection to fit with design and performance expectations, business practices for builders and mechanical contractors to ensure design, tender specifications, installation, and verification practices meet best practices to ensure project performance and owner satisfaction. The course will introduce high performance ventilation, space heating, cooling, and domestic hot water principles and solutions to achieve the BC Energy Step Code requirements. This course is offered fully online.
