Free: CleanBC NZER Workshop Series, Low-Carbon Heating & Hot Water

June 18, 2020 @ 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm

This workshop looks at local solutions for low carbon heating and hot water.

About this Event

This event is free, which is made possible through funding from the BC Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources, BC Hydro and the City of Vancouver. To support future ZEBx programming like this, please consider purchasing a ticket at a value of your choice (recommended amount for this workshop is $10-$50).

Low carbon heating and hot water systems are becoming increasingly mainstream in the design and construction of high performance buildings in BC. This response is due to both greenhouse gas (GHG) emission regulations in select areas and owners seeking to meet organizational GHG reduction targets.

Recent winners from the CleanBC Net-Zero Energy Ready Design Challenge are leading the way in innovative design solutions for low carbon heating and hot water. This workshop will showcase four of these projects (three multi-family and one commercial office), each using a different low carbon heating solution, ranging from electric baseboards to heat pumps to district heating.

For low carbon domestic hot water, the latest high efficiency solutions in multi-family, central heat pump design will be presented by one of the leading experts on the topic. The workshop will also provide a status update on industry’s current readiness to design and build low carbon solutions at scale by sharing early, select findings of the multi-stakeholder, provincial BC Low Carbon Building Electrification Road Map.

The two hour event will include presentations, facilitated workshop sessions and networking opportunities.

About ZEBx’s CleanBC NZER Challenge Workshop Series

The “CleanBC Net-Zero Energy Ready Challenge: Workshop Series” consists of six unique workshops over nine deliveries that will run throughout 2020 with the objective to more rapidly advance solutions for zero emission buildings. Through the lens of BC’s most recently celebrated projects that are achieving the highest levels of the BC Energy Step Code and beyond (including Passive House, Canada Green Building Council’s (CaGBC) Zero Carbon Building Standard, LEED, and City of Vancouver Rezoning), participants will work with leading experts across industry silos to identify and advance emerging solutions as well as identify key barriers for scaling adoption.
