BC Energy Step Code Seminar
February 8, 2018 @ 5:30 pm to February 9, 2018 @ 1:30 am
$249In August 2016, the Province of British Columbia announced plans to encourage the development of net-zero buildings, and develop consistent energy-efficiency requirements for new buildings that go beyond the minimum standard in the BC Building Code.
On December 15th, 2017 the BC Government adopted the BC Energy Step code as regulation. As of this date bylaws that reference other technical standards will be unenforceable due to Section 5 of the Building Act coming into force. Local governments are being encouraged to convert existing programs to the Step Code.
This tool is intended to chart a course to a future in which all new construction in British Columbia is net-zero energy ready by 2032.
On Dec 15th nine Municipalities had adopted the Step Code requirements, and many others are following suit each day. By gradually adopting various steps of the new standard, local jurisdictions can steadily increase building performance helping meet energy conservation and greenhouse gas reduction goals.
